Sportsbook Etiquette
Sports betting adds thrill to watching live sporting action. But poor behavior at your favorite sportsbook can get you into trouble with fellow bettors or even the sportsbook staff.
So to keep the fun flowing, here are some etiquette which you should observe while in a sportsbook.
Keep Alcohol to a Minimum
It's been scientifically proven that alcohol impairs judgment. So when you are betting, keep alcohol to a minimum. Betting when you are intoxicated a terrible practice. It will only get you in trouble. When people are impaired their judgment goes out the window. So stay sober and keep your wits about you.
Get Your Bet Ready
Be sure to know what you want to bet on before you get to the betting window. It is rude to blankly stare at the odds and make other bettors wait for you to make up your mind. You should also clearly state to the betting ticket writer what you want to bet on.
Never Ask Other Bettors About Their Loses
What if I ask you how much you've lost today? That just doesn't sound right, does it? Generally, people don't want to be asked about their mistakes. They flatly don't appreciate it, and they may just find it offensive. You shouldn't ruffle any feathers by inquiring about other bettor's loses.
Don't Show Off Your Winnings
You won! That's awesome! Celebrate, rejoice but don't rub it in to the guy who just lost. Even amongst friends. If the people around you are losing cash, your winning won't make them feel any better unless you're going to give them a tip. Enjoy your winnings but do not make others angry or uncomfortable.
Be Generous, Give A Tip
If you make a big score, then be generous, give a tip. How much tip? Well, 10% is a good rule of thumb. If you made $500, then floating $50 to the guy who helped you would be cool.
Using these guidelines will help assure that you have a good time at a sportsbook. And one last thing, be sure to treat others in the same way that you would like to be. Enjoy!
